This 1.7-tonne mini digger punches well above its compact weight. The innovative variable undercarriage can be lowered to 950mm for access through standard doorways or side gates. Once in place the tracks can be easily extended to provide a very stable platform instantly for heavy digging and lifting. Designed to make tough jobs easier, the Yanmar ViO17 is a flexible and operator-friendly machine with rubber tracks to help prevent surface damage to driveways and lawns.

No, you do not need a specific earthmoving license or ticket to operate a 1.7T excavator for private use on private property. However, you must be competent to operate the machinery safely. We provide a brief familiarisation handover before your hire begins to ensure you are comfortable with the controls.

Yes! One of the standout features of the ViO17 is its retractable undercarriage. The tracks can hydraulically retract to a narrow width of just 950mm, allowing the machine to easily pass through most standard residential gates and tight pathways.

The machine typically comes supplied on a trailer equipped with a standard set of buckets (usually a mud bucket, and 300mm/450mm GP digging buckets). If you require specialized attachments like augers or rock breakers, please let us know when booking.

The Yanmar ViO17 runs on standard diesel fuel. We supply the excavator to you with a full tank, and we kindly ask that it is returned fully refuelled at the end of your hire period to avoid any additional refueling surcharges.
